Searching for phrases means
that the words between the quotes must show up in that
exact order, adjacent to one another. In the example
below, the complete phrase "Elm Creek Fight"
must be present in a document in order for it to show
up on a results page. Having the words Elm,
Creek,
or Fight
on the document is not enough -- the words must be in
the exact word order as provided between the quotation
marks.
Wildcard *
Searching with wildcards
allows a query to search for a partial match of a word.
The conditions are that a wildcard can only appear at
the end of a search term, and at least two characters
must be provided before the wildcard
* (asterisk)
argument. In the example below, all matching documents
that contain words that begin with the characters
Ha
and contain the word Ranger will show up on the search
results page:
Examples of words that satisfy the
Ha*wildcard search term are: Hays,
Harrington, Harter,
and Hathaway.
They will show up in combination with Ranger.
Search within results
Searching
within results is a powerful way to narrow your search
results and find exactly the information you are looking
for. If for example, you are searching the surname
"Smith" and do not want to wade through hundreds of
results that are produced by that common name, you can
narrow the results by searching within the results of
your "Smith" query by adding the additional search term
based upon the county in which your "Smith" may have
settled. So that you would add your Texas county
name such as "San Saba" to your "Smith" results (Tip:
don't forget to use "quotation marks" when typing "San
Saba", or you will get more results than you want -
San Antonio, San Marcos, etc). This
will provide you only with results indicating all the
"Smiths" that were associated with San Saba county.
Just click the "Search
within results" link found near the bottom of your search
results page.
Searching with the "Cached" results
When your
search result page comes up, quickly find your information
by clicking the "cached" link found at the end
of each individual search result offered. By clicking
the "cached" link, you will find your search terms highlighted
on the page that you will visit when you click the desired
search result link.
Example: Using the
search term "San Macos"
